NGOs under this sector provide social
services in health, welfare and education. The commission is
also responsible for building capacity of its members and
ensuring that skills of NGO personnel are developed so that
NGOs in turn can train their members.
The HSDC focuses on health and social development issues,
and is specifically aligned to promoting social justice and
access to social and health services. In view of the
increasing HIV and AIDS prevalence in the country, the
Commission has taken a bold decision to facilitate its
mainstreaming within the activities of the Council. The
Commission is also concerned with provision of quality and
equitable education and resources for development.
The members of the Commission focus on activities relating
to:
- HIV and AIDS mainstreaming
- Advocacy on education policies and access
- Teachers rights
- Youth development
